2007 Conference Workshop Schedule
Living a life of Intimacy with God through prayer Many Christians are struggling to have an intimacy with our heavenly father. We often wonder where God is after having accepted the gift of salvation. Sometimes we wish Him to become a reality in our lives, instead we feel like He is fading away. While we wish for more of God in our lives, we spend very little time in prayer. Some of us would argue that we are lazy, or we do not think that there is any purpose in prayer, or we have other reasons. In this workshop, we will learn the correlations between prayer and living a life of intimacy with our Father. We hope to bridge the gap that we experience between God and us each day.
The Church has been around for almost 2000 years. In the book of Acts, Luke described the church as multiplying daily through zealous evangelistic efforts and involving themselves with the community. What about the church today? Is it growing? If not, how can you, as an individual, help the church reach out to the community and the lost? Why is outreaching to the community important?
When we decide to pursue a career, what is our primary motivation? Is it to glorify God, is it for security reasons, or is it primarily to make money? How should we go about determining a career that best embodies God's perfect will for us, and if we have already chosen a path, how do we glorify God in the workplace?
Often times we are faced with trials and obstacles that challenge our faith. How should we view these circumstances, and how do we give glory to God amidst unfortunate circumstances?
The purpose of this workshop is to be transformed by God's love, grace, and the power of the Holy Spirit, and let that transformation enable us to become more Christ-like. Without that experience , no sustainable transformation will take place. Many of us have been frustrated when we try to become “a better Christian” based solely on our own efforts. It's time to do more than just “try harder & do the right thing.”
The Western culture is now more aware and approving of Eastern religions – Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, and Confucianism. What do these religions encompass? Why are they gaining popularity? What has happened to Christianity in the Western world? What do these religions provide that Christianity does not? What do we, as Christians, need to do in this changing world? Why are people looking into Eastern religions for “Tao” when the Bible clearly says that Jesus is the only Way?
If we ask people about their faith, many will say that they believe in God but they don't practice everything that Jesus taught. In other words, they profess with their mouths, but not with their actions. They call themselves “non-practicing Christians.” They usually have different reasons for their choice of lifestyle. How do we know if someone genuinely believes in God? Can we date or marry non-practicing Christians? Do going to church, praying, and reading the Bible regularly make us better Christians or more righteous than non-practicing Christians? Let us find out more!!!!!!!!!!
Is work, school, family, or even church life stressing you out? By reading the book of Acts, you will find that early Christian workers faced a variety of problems as well. Stress is now thought to be an unavoidable consequence of life and can potentially be dangerous. Oftentimes, it can cause physical and emotional problems such as headaches, anxiety, and even depression. But more importantly, it can affect our relationship with God by fostering anger or resentment. As Christians, we should use Biblical tools and apply them to the stresses of the 21 st century life. We can do this by learning about stress and how to deal with it Biblically.
The Holy Spirit distributes the spiritual gift(s) freely to all Christians to build up the Body of Christ. God has a plan in your life. The Holy Spirit has given you one or more spiritual gifts if you are a Christian. Discovering & understanding your gift(s) can be a thrilling experience. Since we have limited time to serve, we should maximize effectiveness. This workshop will help you understand how your spiritual gifts can prepare you to serve and where you should plug into ministry.
In apologetics, it is important for us Christians to stand firm in what we believe in. From the Old Testament to the New Testament, Jesus Christ is the central figure. Consequently, our Lord is often the target for many anti-Christian theories. There will always be new theories that spring up. Therefore, it is important for us to better understand our Lord Jesus and ground ourselves in the knowledge of Him. In this workshop, we will explore Jesus not just in the context of the Bible, but also through early church history and writing from non-Christian historians. From all these writings, we will arm ourselves with even more evidence to support our faith and stand firm against false beliefs. |
