West Coast Chinese Christian Conference draws upon a large panel of internationally-known Christian speakers. This year we have the privilege of having both Dr. Simon Tsoi and Dr. Philemon Choi as our main speakers and Anthony Chan as our worship leader. Our panel of distinguished speakers plenary and workshop speakers promise to challenge us while providing practical insights.

2002 Main Speakers

Morning Speaker Dr. Simon Tsoi
Dr. Simon Hon-Leung Tsoi is currently the Executive Director of Chinese Baptist Fellowship of US and Canada. Dr. Tsoi was formerly the first Vice President of the Southern Baptist Convention and a senior pastor at First Chinese Baptist Church, Phoenix. He has also taught English in university and college in Oklahoma and California. His academic training includes a B.A. from Hong Kong Chinese University, M.A. from Oklahoma City University and University of Iowa, Th.M. from Dallas Theological Seminary and Doctorate in Ministry from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary.

Evening Speaker Dr. Philemon Choi
Trained as a medical doctor and psychological counselor, Dr. Philemon Choi is a founding member and currently the General Secretary of Breakthrough. Under his leadership, Breakthrough has developed from one magazine to a multi-media youth organization. He is also active in community affairs, and is appointed by the government as members of various committees related to youth policy and youth services, including the chairman of Commission on Youth, Social Welfare Advisor Committee, Action Committee Against Narcotics, Steering Committee on Parent Education, Fight Crime Committee.


Worship Leader Anthony Chan
Founder and Executive Director of Joyful Noise Xpress worship ministry, Anthony began studying music at a very young age. He had conducted choir for eight years and led his choir on a performing tour in the Philippines. Later having studied under several instructors at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA, he became a full time singing coach and many of his students have won numerous singing contests in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 1998, Anthony responded to God’s calling for full time ministry. He has been traveling with his ministry team within the US and to Asia giving concerts and training workshops for local churches. Involved in music ministry for over 30 years, Anthony has a burning passion for the Lord, and a fervent desire to share this passion with the body of Christ through his music.

Worship, Plenary and Workshop Speakers



Victor Chan
Victor Chan has served fervently in WCCCC for over 10 years. He is a layman servant who is committed to realize the vision that the stature of the fullness of Christ is attainable by everyone through the exercising of our individual gifts (Eph 4:11-13). He has taught Sunday school and church training program in his home church in Los Angeles. He holds a M.S. in Neurobiology and a M.S. in Computer Science.

Susan Leong
Susan Leong is presently the Corporate Training and Development Manager for a Bay Area biotech company. While she has been in the Corporate world for the past 14 years, this was not her first priority. Shortly after college, she joined the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ and served in 3 different assignments, 2 of them internationally. Her life verse is John 6:68 "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life." Whether in secular or Christian work, Susan strives to be "salt and light" wherever the Lord plants her. Some of her extra-curricular activities include serving as past advisor for WCCCC and present advisor for the World Christian Fellowship.

Pastor Tim Leung
Tim received a Bachelor's Degree in Music from CSUS and a Masters of Divinity from Multnomah Biblical Seminary. Tim has worked as a Church Planter, Youth/College Director, Worship and Outreach Pastor. He enjoys speaking and singing all over the West Coast and Arizona.

Gary Stanton
Gary and his wife, Donna Mae, ministered to College students for 17 years with The Navigators in Washington state (UW), Corvallis, Oregon (OSU) and San Luis Obispo, California (Cal Poly). At Cal Poly, Gary oversaw the leadership team development of the Chinese Christian Fellowship and preached monthly at the Central California Coast Chinese Christian Fellowship (church). He is now helping develop a national ministry to recent college grads, called Better2Gether, or The Navigator's b2g ministry. He is currently living with his wife and their four children in their home in Kent, Washington.

Pastor Peter Sun
Peter Sun whose ancestry is from the Canton Province was born in Kwelin and grew up in Hong Kong. After coming to the US, he first graduated from the University of Maryland, then from the Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. After college, he worked as an engineer for almost 20 years. In 1989, he was called into the ministry and entered the seminary. After graduation, he served in Chinese churches in Texas, the Bay area, and North Carolina. Peter is currently serving as a pastor in the First Chinese Southern Baptist Church of San Diego.

Plenary Speaker Rev. Charles A. McIlhenny
Rev. McIlhenny received his Doctor of Ministry from Westminster Theological Seminary in 1987. In the past 20 years, he has been the pastor of First Orthodox Presbyterian Church in San Francisco and the co-founder of Christian Heritage Party of the USA and Christian Voter’s League. He has appeared in numerous radio shows and television interviews to plea to churches nationwide for a stronger stand against moral issues. Due to his active war against homosexuality in local communities, Rev. McIlhenny has suffered from constant vandalism, harassments and even death threats from gay militants. He is married to his wife Donna (the co-author of his book When The Wicked Seize A City) and has three children.

Dr. James Setiawan
Dr. James Setiawan is currently an internist at Kaiser Permanente, Fontana. With a M.A. in Christian Apologetics from Biola University, he enjoys teaching young adults & college students about the truth in Christianity and defending Christian faith. Apart from his ministries as the deacon, Bible study & apologetics teacher in his church, he manages to find time for hobbies such as traveling, computer and music. Dr. Setiawan is now living in southern California with his wife Lisa and two sons.

Dr. Richard Yen
Dr. Yen has been a speaker at WCCCC for more than 20 years. He received his Ph.D. in Genetics from UC Berkeley and a M.D. from the University of Miami. He is currently a board certified anesthesiologist practicing at Kaiser Permanente, Fontana.
