WCCCC Winter Conference

Conference > Workshops

As a full time conferee, you will be able to attend the general plenary plus your choice of two workshops.

Answering The Gay Rights Movement
In today’s society, homosexuals are actively promoting and normalizing their lifestyle to the mainstream. In contrast, Christians now seem to have something to hide when it comes to their stance on gay rights. It may surprise you that the gay rights movement aims to undermine the authority, morality, and acceptability of the church and in large part has been successful so far. More than ever, we need to respond to the gay rights movement with unashamed conviction, compelling reasoning, and winsome love rather than in meek avoidance, fearful compromise, or simple dogmatism. Be equipped by this plenary session to offer a thought-provoking defense and appeal for God’s standard.

Sharing The Gospel In Everyday Language - Gary Stanton
Just like any specialized discipline, Christianity employs specific terminologies to define concepts applicable only to their context. Engineers use words such as kinematics, bandwidth and firmware which are clear to other engineers, but most others wouldn’t understand. It is the same with Christians. We use words such as singspiration, quiet time, atonement, supplication, and many others to communicate ideas to one another. However, these words may be meaningless to those whom we want to share Christ with. Since the gospel is for everyone, we need to learn how to communicate with words everyone can understand.

Understanding & Witnessing To Muslims - James Setiawan
We have been told that Islam is a religion of peace, but the attacks from Islamic terrorists and the call for Jihad convey a radically different image of Islam. What is the
real Islam according to the Koran? Can the Koran also be a part of the revealed Word of God? What are the basic teachings of the Koran, and how does the Koran compare to the Bible? In this workshop, we will explore the fundamental beliefs of Islam, how it compares to Christianity, and how to witness to Muslims.

Where Is God When Bad Things Happen? - Simon Tsoi
Have you been left confused and disillusioned by life’s difficulties? When everything is going smoothly, it is easy to believe that God is there. But every person who lives long enough will eventually experience difficulties that are not easy to understand. During these times, the pieces simply do not fit, and the love of God no longer makes sense. Most of us are inclined in those moments to struggle with the most troubling question in human experience: Why did God let this happen to me? Unfortunately, some believers are so shaken by their inability to understand that they feel a profound sense of abandonment by God. This “betrayal barrier” is a dangerous weapon used against us. Satan wants each of us to feel that our compassionate Lord has actually singled us out for abuse! Dr. Simon Tsoi will teach your how to hold to our faith even when bad things happen.

Have You Cleaned Your Ear Lately? Discerning God’s Calling - Peter Sun
We all know that God calls people for great things. But do you know that He also calls us for other ‘ordinary’ things to fulfill His plan and to glorify His kingdom? God has different callings for each person; however, often we use many excuses to block them. Maybe it is time to bring those Q-tips out to remove the obstacles that have prevented us from hearing His voice.

Trying Too Hard To Be Trendy - Tim Leung
In today’s society, students are often involved in drinking, clubbing, body piercing, wearing inappropriate clothing, etc. Students who are not trendy will often be considered outcasts. However, the Bible tells us not to conform any longer to the pattern of this world. In this workshop, you will learn how to deal with peer pressure while still relating to your friends.

Finding Balance In Our Daily Lives - Susan Leong
In today’s hectic world, many things compete for our attention. Work is a practical necessity for most of us, and for born-again Christians, so is participating in church and ministry. What is the right balance that enables us to exercise good stewardship of our time and talents? How do we decide when to say “No" to something in order to say "Yes" to something else? In this workshop, we will go over some practical guidelines to help you determine balance in your life.

Why Really Smart People Believe In God - Richard Yen
Many people think that smart people don’t believe in God, or at least they don’t need to. Since Christians believe in God, they must not be very smart or their psychological needs exceed their intellectual honesty. However, the truth is that everyone does believe in something, whether they call it "God" or not. In Romans 1, God says that He has already manifested Himself majestically through the laws of nature and mankind. An awareness of God can be reached and comprehended by human logic and intelligence. We will cover the following: the Law of Nature, the Law of Man, and the Law of God. Come and learn how to use these ideas to challenge your friends and present a rational faith in Jesus.

Defending Doctrines Non-Christians Love To Attack - Victor Chan
You are discussing with your friend that all people need to come to Christ and all of a sudden he or she brings up a question that you can’t answer. Not knowing what to say, the conversation ends. Here is an opportunity to go back with an answer or to prepare for such a situation. Victor Chan will be speaking on the doctrines that non-Christians love to attack. Common as well as unfamiliar objections, such as “how do you know if the Bible is the Word of God”, “are you guilty of being close-minded as Christians?” and “I don’t think I need God right now” will be addressed. In addition to addressing specific questions, Victor will go over general patterns between most objections to our faith and the answer to those objections.

Building Spiritual Focus & Accountability In Your Fellowships - Philemon Choi
If you have ever served or been involved in a Christian fellowship, you have probably been concerned about the spiritual focus and accountability of your group at least once. It is not uncommon for those who serve and participate in Christian fellowships to feel that something is lacking in their fellowship, that perhaps there should be more passion and more reverence for God, more concern for the lost, more personal accountability between believers, and more of a direction for their fellowship. Dr. Philemon Choi will discuss how to build the spiritual focus and accountability lacking in your fellowship from the Bible and from his experiences. This workshop is not just for leaders and coordinators.
